The Lincoln Brand Picks Up Some Steam In Q3, Ford Reports

The Lincoln brand got a mention in this week’s Ford Motor Co. third-quarter earnings call, because Lincoln had its best quarterly sales since before the recession, up 15 percent from a year ago, and the best quarterly performance since the second quarter of 2008.

Ford has been diligently re-launching the Lincoln brand globally, not least in China, the world’s biggest-selling automotive market, where the company introduced Lincoln a year ago.

Ford said earlier it is looking to roughly triple Lincoln sales volume worldwide to around 300,000 by 2020, from only about 100,000 units in 2013.

At least Lincoln didn't throw up "pie in the sky" crazy sale figure that they plan to achieve by 2020 that's Not Gonna Happen. . .like Alfa Romeo and others have

I was reading about Fiat's outlandish sales predictions for their Alfa group and had to laugh a little, Robert.  They's have to grow by leaps and bounds in order to sell as many vehicles as they are promising by 2018.  Lincoln seems a bit more candid about what they are up against.

When Fiat Chrysler bites the dust in the next two years, Alfa will go to VW, Ram to Toyota and Jeep to Ford.  Chrysler and Dodge will just become dustbin history brands as they don't produce anything outside of the Caravan that any other automaker would want.

It will take decades of commitment from Ford and Lincoln to make Lincoln cool and even relevant again.  A lot of people left the Lincoln brand a long time ago for Lexus, Acura, BMW and Audi to name a few.  Can Lincoln get those customers back from stellar brands like Audi when they have such good marks from Consumer Reports?  Lincoln has to make some very attractive vehicles in both looks and performance across their line and create a lot of buzz in order for people to consider them again.
